General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The x-ray report shows upperpart of left lobe of lung showing minimal opaque infiltrations of infection... The hilar region of the lung has enlarged lymph nodes (characteristic of the infection ), this is also associated with pleural exudate (effusion) of fluid at the base of the pleural cavity surrounding left lung.

The costophrenic angle (describing lower end of pleural cavity between rib cage & diaphragm) becomes blunt when fluid collected in the cavity is about 75 ml.

Enlargement of heart is suggestive of involvement of heart tissue on the infection. All of these are strongly suggestive of starting of lung infection with tuberculosis... to be confirmed by other investigations (blood counts, Montoux skin sensitivity test, sputum culture test ) & clinical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
