Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
52 yr old Female and Just recently had a blood test done. I found out with the results that my total cholesterol is 246 withe the hdl being 64 and ldl being 162 is that normal for me. Do i have to take meds for this? Al $o this was not fasting when this test was taken.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The lipid profile shows that the total cholesterol and LDL are elevated. The normal level of total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/dl and that of LDL is less than 100 mg/dl. HDL is in good range, it should ideally be more than 60 mg/dl. The level of total cholesterol and LDL are not affected by food intake. Since, the level of total cholesterol and LDL are high life style modifications and medications both may be required. You need to consult your doctor for further management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
