What Does This Lipid Profile Test Report Indicate?
Hi. My total cholesterol is 216.0. My Trig. are 63.0. My HDL is 65.0. However, my HDL is 159.0. LDL:HdL ratio is 2.5. I am a 59 year old female. I am not and have never been on a statin. 5 years ago my LDL was high (has been high for several years), so my MD suggested I have the EBT scan before he would consider putting me on a statin. The results of the scan was 0 calcified plaque. I would like to know am I at a high risk with the LDL number? Thank you.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. After going through your lipid profile report posted, the following things can be inferred. 1. Total cholesterol level is higher than normal. It is desirable to be below 180 mg/dl. 2. Triglyceride with 63 mg/dl is good. 3. HDL with 65 mg/dl is also good. 4. LDL with 159 mg/dl is normal but towards the upper limit. 5. LDL:HDL ratio is fine as it must be less than 3.5. It would be desirable to bring down total cholesterol and LDL levels further down and can be achieved by means of diet and exercise. There is no need to start on medications like statins at this stage. Kindly keep a follow-up on the values by getting lipid profile done once in 3 to 6 months and consult Physician in case any abnormality is detected. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
