What Does This Liver Test Result With History Of Having Jaundice Indicate?

My age is 28 male. My sgpt count is 79 U/L and direct bilirubin is 0.6mg/dl last week. I had jaundice in Aug 2014 last year but had recovered as per test done in last Dec 2014 and sgpt was under limit. What action should I undergo? What test should I undergo ? Is this is serious issue or danger symptoms ? Is the current sgpt count I.e 79 showing symptoms of jaundice bounce back? What should I do to reduce fatty liver ? Plz guide me on above things.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
First of all you need to know that after recovering from jaundice, it does not take one full year for enzymes to come to normal. It usually attains normal levels in about a month or month and half.
Since bilirubin level is 0.6 mg/dl, it says that you have recovered from jaundice. But SGPT (AST) enzyme level of 79 U/L needs to be assessed as it is almost double the upper limit of reference range.
It is not a serious thing to worry about now, but it states that there is some amount of liver cell dysfunction.
If you are alcoholic, then it could be due to alcoholic fatty liver or alcohol induced hepatocellular damage.
Hence, you need to get an ultrasound abdomen of the right hypochondriac region done to know what could be the reason behind it.
Kindly consult Physician or Gastroenterologist for opinion with the report.
You need to quit smoking and alcohol intake if you are habituated to it.
Eat healthy foods and keep yourself fit by regular exercise.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
