What Does This Mammogram Report Indicate?
I have a history of breast cancer and had a lumpectomy in June of 2014. I had a mammogram today and was told that I have a spot in the breast near the lumpectomy incision which the radiologist described as a calcification. He indicated that he had seen the calcification in 2017 and that at this time it had not become larger. He stated that he did not see any reason to biopsy, but my physician might feel differently. He said I should remain on a 6 month mammogram schedule. I am scheduled to see my breast doctor in March. Should I be concerned and should I request immediate appt. with my breast doctor? Calcification at the incision site is quite common and nothing much to worry. However it is better to do a six monthly mammogram to assess any increase in size or reappearance of lump. No emergency intervention is required as of now and you don’t have to see your breast doctor now.
