Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told today after a mammography that I have a summation density with a questionable neodensity in my left best. The radiologist wants to see my mammogram from last year before redoing more shots. Is this standard? Should I be concerned? What is a neodensity?
* As per my clinical experience, the density of the breast tissue on mammogram is indicated by the level of fat, breast and connective tissue.
* Neodensity means appearance of more dense spot than usual echo texture of rest of the breast.
* This can be a physiologic change or certain abnormality in terms of pathological process.
* The comparison with previous scans give best results of evaluation to comment further.
* If it is not found on previou mammogram or increasing in size, changing characteristics , shape or else, one may be advised to get a biopsy report of suspicious region or area focued on mammogram.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
