Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i just got results of Oncotype DX tests. My Score is 25 with recurrence shown as 16%. I had a lumpectomy with one node removed which was negative. On the chart it showed me exactly in the mid range of the middle portion of the graph. So, it seems to me that on a scale of 1 to 100, my score should be 50. I simply don t understand the numbers and whether or not I should consider chemotherapy as well as radiation. My oncologist suggests not as she said it will only make a difference of 3 or 4% in a 10 year window. What are your feelings about this?
Oncotype diagnostic recurrence rate less than 15, indicates that almost there is no additional benefit by chemotherapy in addition to hormone therapy. However, a score between 16 to 20 causes a nominal decrease of about 2% in recurrence with chemotherapy.
If the score is 21 to 25, then a 7% decrease in recurrence may be there. More than 25 score points that benefits of chemotherapy are definitely more as compared to risks considering likelihood of recurrence. This benefit goes on increasing as the recurrence score goes on increasing.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
