Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Atrophic Vaginitis is an expected finding of
PAP smear in menopausal women not taking
estrogen replacement therapy. Up to 40 percent of postmenopausal women have the condition called atrophic vaginitis.
Atrophic vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina due to the thinning and shrinking of the tissues, as well as decreased lubrication as a result of lack of hormone estrogen.
Estrogen replacement therapy may be instituted either systemically or locally, but the dosage and delivery method for this needs to be individualized. Use of vaginal moisturizers and lubricants may also be beneficial in the treatment of women with atrophic vaginitis.
Since PAP smear is only a screening test and is not indicating any pathology about
cervix, it would be be better to go for other means to rule out any cervical pathology by consulting Gynecologist.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
