Dear Doctor, I'm 62 years old substitute teacher which was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. A bone scan revealed a focal takeup within the right sixth rib posteriorly and laterally, spine negative, Pelvis/Hops negative, extremities negative. My CT Pelvis showed a nonaggressive appearing sclerotic focus in the inferior medial right femoral head measuring 5 mm is likely a bone island. Please can you tell me what stage of cancer I have? How long will I live with this situation?. My doctor told me that he recommend starting with Hormone therapy, using Lupron Depot 22.5 mg 3 month. Thank you very much for all your help.
It mean that your focal rib radioactive takeup can be a bone metastasis from prostatic cancer but it can be even something benign like a degenerative bone process. The femoral head in CT is nothing to worry about, its just a benign process. Even in the case of a bone metastasis the life expectancy is long.
