Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son having fever from last 2 months.doctors prescribed antibiotics.it is observed that after course the fevers resurfaces. The sonography reported that he have multiple mildly enlarged mesentric lymph nodes are seen in periumbilical region. Largest of 11 x 8 mm flazil given but fever persist.pls suggest .
Hello and welcome to HCM, A history of fever for past two months along with multiple mesenteric lymph node enlargement is suggestive of tuberculosis until proven otherwise. Certain investigations need to be done to confirm the diagnosis. These investigations include, Mantoux test and aspiration cytology of the mesenteric lymph nodes. Aspiration cytology is a procedure wherein the cellular material from the lymph node will be aspirated using a needle. Presence of granuloma and acid fast bacilli prove the diagnosis of tuberculosis. In addition, a X-ray chest also needs to be done to look for any suspicious lesion in the chest because tuberculosis most commonly affects the lungs. If tuberculosis is diagnosed after investigations, anti-tubercular treatment will be given which has to be carried out without fail for couple of months.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
