My daughter had fever this morning,and found her stool is different. I brought it to the laboratory and results are as follows: COLOR:Brown CONSISTENCY:mucoid ENTAMOEBA HISTOLYTICA CYST:3-6/lpf TROPH: 1-3/lpf PUS CELLS:many RED BLOOD CELLS: 2-4/hpf What does it mean and what medications should a 2 yrs old take? After analysing the stool examination report, it clearly states that she is having from 'amoebiasis' caused by protozoan parasite organism called 'entamoeba histolytica'. It causes internal inflammation of large intestine.
Amoebiasis is a 100% treatable disease and specific antibiotics such as metronidazole or nitazoxanide may be used for the treatment under a doctor’s prescription. You need an evaluation from Pediatrician regarding the dose and duration of the medication to be given to her.
To prevent spreading of infection to others, one should take care of personal hygiene. Always wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilet and before eating or preparing food.
