Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had a virus like flu for two weeks. It then went into my respiratory system. Now I also have diarrhea. I had a stool test today and as I look online at the results it reads: Stool Lactoferrin (LAB) Positive NEGATIVE Abnormal Doc says probably related to the other, but I was worried about the abnormal label I just saw.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Lactoferrin is a multifunctional protein of the transferrin family. It is a globular glycoprotein with a molecular mass of about 80 kDa. It is widely represented in various secretory fluids such as milk, saliva, tears and nasal secretions. Lactoferrin detection is a stool (fecal) test that is used to detect inflammation in the intestines. Fecal lactoferrin increases in intestinal related conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and also with other inflammatory conditions, with intestinal bacterial infections, some parasitic infections and with colon cancer. Kindly consult Physician with report for proper clinical assessment and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
