Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hey doc i tested on tuesday for HIV STATUS so i want know if am positive or what because the test machine shows one line very very faint and dark line on C.So at the clinic they gave me Astroiza to drink them and am pregnant.AM WORRIED ABOUT MY STATUS CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN FULLY TO ME BECAUSE AT CLINIC THEY DOES NT EXPLAIN ANYTHING TO ME.THEY JUST AM HIV POSITIVE.
Faint line in your HIV test might indicates that your titres are weakly positive after an initial exposure. To avoid risk, you are given Atroiza (It is not Astroiza) regimen as post exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV transmission after contact to possibly infected body fluids. But this drug needs to be started within 72 hours post exposure to prevent HIV transmission.
This HIV test may not be fully reflective as you may be also in the window period where the virus concentration is too low to be detected by the standard Rapid HIV test. You would need to repeat the test in 3 months. With post-exposure prophylaxis, it should come negative after 3 months.
Alternatively, there are more advanced tests like PCR that could confirm your status immediately, but it might be costing you more.
Hope for the best. All the best.
