Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For two for two months I could smell cigarette smoke off and on through the week. Last week I had one night where it was so bad it made me sick to my stomach. The next day I could no longer smell it and have not smelled it since. What was it? Should I worry it will come back or that it s a sign of something serious? No one smokes at home and I smelled it at various places, not just him.
I can understand your concern. There are many reasons that can make you feel that you are smelling cigarette smoke while no such smell is around. Some of them can include damage to the nerve that conducts smell impulses to brain (olfactory nerve) by injury or infection. As the nerve has power to regenerate, it may never come back if infection or trauma impact is resolved by body's natural mechanism.
However, if you feel these sensations again or they increase in intensity or frequency, I advise you to visit a neurologist for physical examination and further investigations.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
