What Does This Ultrasound Report For Swollen Lymph Nodes Indicate?

Hi, i would like to ask about my mother s situation. She had a celebral hemorrhage due to aneurysm rupture on the left side last January. The rupture was treated by coiling, and since she has been using Keppra. At the beginning of June, she felt a bump on the left side of her neck, later she found there two more. The first doctor prescribed her antibiotics, but they did not work out. She had an ultrasonography, that revealed three swollen lymph nodes, largest lymph node 9mm x 5mm in the short axis in the posterior cervical triangle. And multiple, solid thyroid nodules, largest 21 mm. Ultrasoud diagnosis also says, parotid and submandibular gland contours are normal, parenchymal echotexture is homogenous. Cervical main vascular structures look natural. I have tried to take her back to doctor s but she refuses. Could this be something malignant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that these lymph nodes might be indicating some benign inflammatory or infectious disease or might indicate some malignancy. To be sure you will have to have a biopsy done for lymph nodes. Should also perform an x-ray neck and thorax.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
