Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
mild dilatation of pelvicalyceal system is noted persistently throughout the time of scan which would slightly reduce with partial emptying of bladder. maximum AP dimension of 5.8mm noted in let fetal kidney and up to 9mm on right. ureters do not to be dilated
I have seen many patients with more or less similar ultrasound findings in many pregnant ladies. The most likely possibility is that this is a normal variant of normal kidney tissue. It is known as Extra-Renal Pelvis, in which some part of the renal pelvis is outside of renal tissue. However, there is possibility of obstructive cause which is known as PUJ( Pelvi-ureteric junction) obstruction. It is difficult to differentiate between these two conditions in early pregnancy. Follow up ultrasound in third trimester and after delivery ( ultrasound of the baby) needs to be done. If PUJ Obstruction is confirmed at follow up ultrasounds....then I would suggest you to consult a neonatologist....even in that case the condition is treatable.
I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you and your baby good health.
