What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

I just received the results from an ultra sound the liver is increased in echogenicity suggesting a diffuse infiltrative process such as fatty infiltration which limits evaluation for focal lesions but no focal hepatic lesions are identified. I am 67 years old. Is this serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Thank you for your question.
Fatty Infiltration of the liver is a reversible condition and often an incidental finding.
It maybe caused by Excessive Alcohol intake, Obesity , Hyperlipidemia etc.
If you have any symptoms such as nausea , vomiting, abdominal pain or jaundice, I would advise you to consult a physician and do a liver function test.
If your blood reports are normal , I would suggest
Lifestyle modification such as

-Avoidance of alcohol
-Physical Activity( 30 minutes of exercise a day ) and weight loss
-Avoid Fatty Foods
-Treatment of Diabetes and /or High Lipid levels.

Hope this information is helpful.

Thanks
Dr. Alex
