What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

I have had heavy bleeding for 3 x my last menstrual cycles. The last 2 lasted 1-2 weeks and now this 1 1 month. My ob sent me for ultrasound and the endo stripe measures 15.4mm thickness. I donot have menopausal symptoms but feel nauseated a lot and I am 48 yrs old. Obviously this is not normal, However what can this mean? simple D&C?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Hormonal imbalances are common as you age and a prominence of estrogen with cause the endometrium to thicken and cause heavy or prolonged bleeding.

A D&C is indicated as you have abnormal bleeding and thickened endometrium.
Tissue study will determine the cause of this and rule out or pick up on any possible tissue abnormalities.
Based on these results, further course of action will be determined.
You may need to have hormone tablets to suppress the estrogen and regulate periods and bleeding in the meantime.

Please remember that this could be part of the perimenopausal period. You may be advised surgery to remove the uterus but there should be a clear indication and risk factors to support the procedure.

Hope this helps.
I would be happy to help if you need anything else.
Wish you good health
