Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dear Doctor, Am 19 wk 4 days pregnant with my first child. My recent anomaly scan report mentions that everything is normal except, following note An isolated Echogenic Focus seen in the left ventricle . Is this a big concern? I was told that it may dissapear before i deliver the baby. Is this normal? What are your views? FYI..My 3rd month scan indicates that i have very low risk of down s syndrome. Looking forward to your views.. Thanks, Uma
I can understand your concern. Isolated Echogenic Focus is observed in about 30% of Asian fetuses which the mother is in second trimester, which does not indicate any cardiac abnormality. The only implication to assess for Trisomy 21 or Down's syndrome.
I would advise you to ask your gynecologist to go for detailed fetal assessment study to assess presence of other structural malformations in the fetus. Based on that assessment, further information regarding the fetal growth can be gained.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
