What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

My ultrasound revealed a slightly heterogenous and hypochoic pancreas. I had the ultrasound because I have been having pain in my abdomen that goes to my back. I am a 47 year old female. I have no ther symptoms: no jaundice, weight loss, stool issues, etc. I will be having an MRI and blood test. I am worried about cancer. Is that likely?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The ultrasound examination has not identified a mass (or lump) in the pancreas but changes throughout the pancreas. So, it is less likely this is due to cancer.

On the other hand, an MRI examination may identify structures that the MRI examination did not visualize so it is best to have the results of the MRI to be sure.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
