Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had a ultrasound on his testicles. The right one came back normal. The left showed heterogeneous echo texture with a striated appearance and a more focal hyperechoic region. . They also suggested that an infiltrative neoplastic process must be considered. Also it stated a ill-defined hyperechoic region measuring 2.5x1.6x1.4cm. What does this mean? They recommend a urology consultation. He is 60 years old
Hello, What this means is that there is a relatively small area in the left testicle that does not have a normal appearance. The statement that an infiltrative neoplastic process must be considered means that it is possible that this is cancer. They cannot diagnose cancer just from an ultrasound so it may be just a cyst or something else benign, but the urologist will need to decide how to proceed. He may need a biopsy or to have the area removed so that they can make an exact diagnosis. It is not time to panic or assume it is cancer. It may very well be something benign, but he does need to follow up with the urologist Regards
