Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My wife is 19 weeks pregnant. As per the recent ultrasound scan report, the cervical length of my wife is 2.9cm. Our doctor advised for cervical stitching. Is this necessary to have cervical stitching as my wife doesn t have any previous problems like preterm labour, abortion and miscarriage? And we are planning to go to native in her 25th week. Is this safe to travel by fight, suppose she had a cervical stitching? Please advise and thanks for your help.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM A cervical length of 2.9cm at 20weeks is short and may predispose to cervical incompetence late in pregnancy. At that gestational age, average length is 4 to 4.5cm.I will suggest you discuss with your OBS/GYN specialist to exploit options to keep the baby intact before you travel.A cervical cerclage may be the best option .Any thing that can physical stress you up may not be good later in pregnancy. You OBS/GYN will help you with the best management options. Regards
