What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi, My kid on day 1 of birth had seizures. He was on ventilator for 3 days. EEG on 3rd day showed abnormal activity in brain. After that he is breathing without ventilator support and also breast feed. He was discharged from NICU at 11 days. He seems fine externally wrt normal functions. At 20 days brain ultrasound showed small subacute/chronic hemorrhage in right ganglio capsular region measuring 10x7mm. He is taking anticonvulsant medicine and has MRI scheduled in 3 weeks. He is full term baby. Your suggestions pls

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

He had intracranial bleed and continues to be sick. MRI will reveal more details about brain tissue. ICH causes increased intracranial pressure and seizures hence he is on anticonvulsants. Follow your neonatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
