Dear mam/sir After getting muly ultrasound report i saw a conclusion in the report that Minimal fluid discharge in POD .i just wanted to know the reason behind this and is there any risk in pregrancy ar concieving .....My periods are about to come in 3-4 day is this fluid shows just because of my Menstrual cycle...and mam i dont have any prblm in my body and no other pain i feel
dear Ms, this minimal fluid accumulation is a sign of mild inflammation . it is recommended that you take an anti inflammatory as ibuprofen tablets 3 times daily for one week and repeat the ultrasound scan . the upcoming period is not the cause of that fluid accumulation
Incomplete data like purpose of doing ultrasound, any associated symptoms like fever, lower abdominal pain, irregular menses, infertility, etc???
The pouch of Douglas (POD) is a localized area of the peritoneal cavity located between the back wall of the uterus and the rectum. It normally contains 1 to 3 milliliters of fluid throughout the menstrual cycle which increases to about 4 to 5 milliliters during ovulation.
Minimal free fluid (up to 5 ml) in POD in absence of associated symptoms can occur under normal conditions when a woman is ovulating.
Based on the given report of the ultrasound the minimal fluid in pouch of Douglas could be due to either a normal finding associated with ovulation during the menstrual cycle if you do not have symptoms like abdominal pain, irregular bleeding, vaginal discharge, infertility, etc.
