What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hello, my thyroid ultrasound said enlarged and inhomogeneous with no nodules noted. Compared to a previous test, my left side was enlarged before, and now my right is as well. I have been on synthroid for years. My thyroid blood level went from 3 to 5.9, and my FT3 and FT4 have decreased. What does this mean?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think you have to increase the Synthroid dose because now you are in hypothyroidism. "My thyroid blood level went from 3 to 5.9," I think you mean your TSH is 5.9, which means that you take not enough external Levothyroxine. That’s why your thyroid enlarges because is compensatory to produce more internal Levothyroxine from your thyroid gland, but it can't because it is not healthy, so this make it vicious cycle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Parth Goswami

T3 and T4 decreases and increased TSH suggest toward hypothyroidism. Kindly provide your all thyroid reports for giving more comment. Dose of Levothyroxine is adjusted according to the TSH level. When TSH and T4 come within limit then low maintenance dose can be taken.

If any enlarged thyroid nodule seen then FNAC can be taken for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
