Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter who is 21 years old has results from ultrasound of her thyroid which are average size. R - 50x20x14mm the L - 49x18x12mm. No evidence of retrostrrnal ext. there is overall homogeneous thyroid echo texture with no evidence of intrathyroidal macromodularity. There is diffuse increased vascularity throughout both thyroid lobes. It is suggestive of diffuse parenchymal thyroid disease. As her mother can h pls explain to me what, if any treatment is available for this if it is Thyroiditis? Thanks
The ultrasound indicates that the thyroid appears homogenous, this means that it looks the same, there are no abnormal masses seen.
There is increased blood supply due to general enlargement of the thyroid.
Before any treatment is started, she would need blood tests to determine the exact function of the thyroid. Thyroiditis is inflammation of the thyroid and there are different causes, treatment would depend on additional findings but should definitely be available.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
