What Does This Ultrasound Scan Finding Indicate?

Hi I m 47, have a 3 & 9yr old both delivered via Caesarian. I have just had a 15 day period - 5 days heavy/normal - 10 days heavyish spotting every time I have gone to bathroom - it has now ceased. I have just had an ultrasound: myometrium appears slightly patchy with the posterior myometrium appearing thicker than the left. The endometrium measures 3mm . I have not been experienced any more menstrual pain than normal, however my entire stomach has felt bloated and tender since a day or two prior to my cycle commencing. I will not see the doctor for a week and then am meant to be going overseas for a 3 month posting immediately after. Should I be thinking cancelling my posting?

Hello,

As it's only single episode of prolonged period, it might be mostly due to stress related hormonal imbalance. So you don't need to cancel your posting. Moreover, your ultrasound imaging report is normal endometrium.

Myometrium is patchy and thicker suggests there may be probability of adenomyosis; a condition where in excessive bleeding occurs. Discuss this with your gynecologist and if necessary, she may start contraceptive pills to stop menstruation and other symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
