What Does This Ultrasound Scan Finding Indicate?

My sonogram had the following findings: Hepatic parenchyma is echogenic without a discrete mass. Impression was: 1)No biliary dilation postcholecystectomy. 2) No hepatic mass. 3) Slightly heterogeneous appearing pancreatic head on sonography. Consider correlation with contrast-enhanced cross-sectional imaging either CT or MR. Correlation with pancreatic enzymes is recommended as well. What does all this mean? Cancer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The ultrasound report suggests the following:
1. You had an operation for gall stones and post operation your liver and biliary tract is normal.
2. However, there is a lesion seen in head of the pancreas which needs to be investigated further.
The lesion could be due to inflammation of pancreatic head following operation or infection. Cancer could be a possibility, but to be kept as last option.
Kindly get the pancreatic enzymes in blood tested namely Amylase and Lipase along with CT scan as suggested. This will give a proper picture what it could be.
You may consult Surgeon after investigations for appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
