What Does This Ultrasound Scan Report Mean?

Uterus is retroverted normal in size and positions no abnormal filling defects seen in the uterus both the fallopian tubes are partially visualised and no spillage of the contrast into the peritoneal cavity on both sides ,suggest bilateral fimbrial block impressions BILATERAL FIMBRIAL BLOCK doc advised for surgery in this case any side effects of the surgery is there no other option than surgery what are the chances of conceiving after this surgery what causes this bilateral fimbrial block and what is it plz elaborate

Hello.
The report is from a procedure called hystero-salpingo-graphy (done under xray or ultrasound).
The contrast has filled the uterine cavity and both tubes. Patency of tubes would result in a spill into the abdominal cavity.
However there is a block at the farthest end of the tubes called fimbrial end.
The fimbriae normally pickup the egg released from the uterus and send it to the uterus through the tube passage, hence blockage results in infertility.
The block is commonly due to tubal damage from inflammation or infection.
Procedures are done to open up the tubes, but success rate is variable.
You must talk to your doctor about this, as assisted fertility methods is an option.
