Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a CT scan that detected an 3.9cm ovarian cyst. I had an ultrasound a month later due to pain/pressure. The ultrasound report states that it is a complex cyst with internal vascularity, minimal peripheral vascularity and rare low level echoes. The size of the cyst may predispose towards ovarian torsion. I have had a rough year dealing with iron deficiency anemia, and now gastroparesis but I feel there is more going on. Gastroparesis has many similar symptoms of bloating, constipation etc. We don t know how long the cyst has been there as I have been through a lot of medical stuff but never knew about the cyst until December. I have a family history of mother = breast cancer, father = prostate cancer and grandfather = lymphoma. Should I be concerned? I want the cyst removed.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Test should be ruled out for ovarian cancer. Cyst has to be removed as earliest as possible. Because it may predispose to torsion which can lead to severe abdominal pain with cut off ovarian blood supply. Urgent laparotomy would be needed so please consult gynecologist and remove it as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
