What Does This Ultrasound Test Result For Thyroid Indicate?

I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and the findings are as follows and I d like clarity as to what this means:The right lobe of thyroid measures 5.1 x 2 x 2.5 cm. The left lobe of thyroid measures 4.1 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm. The isthmus is unremarkable.Heterogeneous nodule in right lobe of thyroid middle third to lower pole with increased vascularity, measuring 3.3 x 1.9 x 1.9 cm. Heterogeneous nodule predominantly hypoechoic in left lobe middle third to lower pole with increased vascularity, measuring 2.6 x 1.6 x 1.7 cm.Impression:1. Bilateral thyroid nodules with increased vascularity of indeterminate significance. Fine-needle aspiration of the 2 nodules is recommended.

Hello,

This test means you have two lumps in your thyroid, one on each side.
While most thyroid lumps are benign (not cancer), it is advisable to have a sample from these lumps looked at under a microscope to make sure they are benign.

Therefore, the fine-needle aspiration is the right way to go.

All the best.
