What Does This Ultrasound Test Result For Vaginal Cramps And Spotting Indicate?

We recently found out we were pregnant, I have been experiencing severe uterine cramps, I went to see my dr and they checked my levels and they have been rising at an appropriate level. Since then I have still had cramping (milder in comparison) and spotting. I had another appointment and ultrasound where we found my hgc levels are still rising and it is early enough that we aren't seeing much on the ultra sound screen. My dr is still concerned there are some red flags and wants to watch things closely. The last 24 hours the spotting has turned to mild bleeding with period like cramps and low back pain, I'm not sure what to think of all of this, are there questions I should be asking and what should I be concerned about

Hello, thanks for writing in.
From your post I understand that you have conceived, but nothing has showed up on the ultrasound.
In order to say if this is abnormal or not, I need to know how many weeks after your missed period date did you test and if it was a transvaginal scan, as by 6 weeks a sac must be seen.
Mild spotting and cramping can be seen early on, but you have mentioned that the amount of bleeding and cramping has increased. This raises a red flag.
In such a case, I would like to rule out an abnormal intrauterine or an ectopic pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about these possibilities.
Usually follow up scans and HCG levels are done along with clinical correlation.
If all seems ok, you can ask him/her about the need for supportive medication.
I would suggest you consult your doctor at the earliest.

All the best.
