What Does This Urine Culture Test Result Indicate?
I just had a 24 hour urine catch done and got the results via email. My protein, total, urine was 10.6 which they say is normal. But the 24 hour protein calculated was 318 and that number scares me. What could be wrong with me? I do have prediabetic & have controlled high blood pressure.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I can understand your concern for the high 24-hours urine protein. 24-hour urine protein measures the amount of protein released in urine over a 24-hour period. This test is usually done if the blood, urine or imaging tests indicate the damage to kidney functions. The normal value is less than 100 milligrams per day. The high value is suggestive of kidney disease caused by diabetes, high BO, autoimmune disorders, certain medications, toxins, or other causes which need to be ruled out by certain lab tests. I advise you to consult a nephrologist for further evaluation & management. Best regards.
