What Does This Urine Screening Test Result Indicate?

Hi, I do not take Amphetamines but I see a pain management specialist every other month for my back & I take urine screenings at every visit., sometimes (not every test) the screening will give a POSITIVE (Abnormal) reading for Amphetamines & Benzodiazepines, could this be due to a combination of meds that I m taking?,. here s my list of meds,. I ve had a pain stimulator implanted in my lower back to help with my Spinal Stenosis & Herniated disc., Dr. has me on Norco 325 x s 4 daily & I wear a transdermal fentanyl patch 25 @ 1 every 72 hrs., Xanax 0.5 x4 daily or as needed, Metoprolol Succinate ER x1 daily and I take monthly urine screenings: my question is why do some screenings test positive when to the BEST of my knowledge I m not taking them?????

Hi,

Many drugs being commonly used may some times give false positive results in urine for amphetamine and benzodiazepines. However, metoprolol may frequently (though labetalol more commonly) may give false positive result for amphetamine in urine. Similarly, out of the medicines you are taking, Xanax itself is a benzodiazepine and hence it will give a true positive result. You should consult on these issues with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
