What Does Titre 1:160 In A Syphilis TPHA Test Indicate?

Hi doctor I am VDRL positive. I have been given 3 shots of penicilin 3 years ago. After that treatment still my VDRl shows positive and when I took TPHA test it shows 1:160 titration. Does it mean I am still having active syphillis? does it reuired to be treated again? What is the best interval to repeat this test to know wheter the count (1:160) is incresing or just remaining still? Please help me with your answers. Thank you, Arun

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Many TPHA test remain positive without symptoms. It is the rising titer of the test matters for clinical relevance and need of therapy rather than chronic steady level.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
