What Does Transvaginal Ultrasound Showing Blood Filled Cyst Mean?

hello, I had a transvaginal ultrasound done today resulting in them finding a blood filled cyst thats 2 cm big. The scan was very painful which it shouldn t be, is this because of the cyst or is there more behind it? I have had symtoms like pain on the left side of my groin, pain during intercourse, irregular periods, bloating, frequent urination and headaches since the beginning of March. What can they do about the cyst or the scan? My uterus wall was also thick, is this because of my cycle since I am around a week and a half away from it or is this related to my symtoms since I have heard this before? My fears are that the cyst is not the full story behind this, please help me with this and how to continue with this. Thank you very much, Kind regards, Eline Thomas

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Thank you for contacting HCM.

I have gone through your ultrasound report and the most likely possibilty of the blood filled cyst is Haemorrhagic Cyst....which is basically formed sometimes when an egg is released and the remaining area left behind gets filled with blood due to rupture of a vessel. At this point there is no need to worry...it presents with pain in the similar manner you have. It usually resolves by itself in around 3 months and would require a follow up ultrasound after three months.
As for your uterine wall thickness...this usually varies in thickness with various stages of menstural cycle....it can also be co- related at the follow up ultrasound after three months.

For the pain I would recommend tab Diclofenac potassium three times daily for three days.

Please consult your local gynaecologist if the symptoms persist or if you develop fever to rule out tubo- ovarian abscess.
I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you good health.
