I am arranging travel insurance and my daughters boyfriend had to attend hospital for short of breathing and they sai he had trapped air in his windpipe. They kept him in and to monitor but said everything ok. I need to know what medical term this is to declare on his insurance as this happened 6 months ago. Thank ou

Although unlikely from your description i wonder if he had air trapped in his chest, reffered to as Pneumothorax. If Pneumothorax he would have been on continuous oxygen support while in hospital, as that fastens the recovery time in it.
