What Does Urobilinogen In The Below Urinalysis Report Indicate?
Hi... My son is 16 years old, and have urinalysis.Urobilinogen is 1 mg/dL PH: 8 Sp. gravitu 1.015 protein/glucose/bilirubin/leukocytes/nitrite : NEG RBC/WBC :0 We were asked to do CBC and peripheral smear test Is there any problem that you can see from the result? Thank you.
Hi Welcome to HCM See , Urobilinogen is normally present in urine in low concentrations. It is formed in the intestine from bilirubin, and a portion of it is absorbed back into the blood. Positive test results may indicate liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver damage due to drugs or toxic substances, or conditions associated with increased RBC destruction (hemolytic anemia). When urine urobilinogen is low or absent in a person with urine bilirubin and/or signs of liver dysfunction, it can indicate the presence of hepatic or biliary obstruction. Depending on the urine colour 0.5 to 1 mg urobilinogen/dI urine are indicated. 1 mg/dl is considered to be the normal excretion rate. Higher values are pathological. Hence , your son's urobilinogen is within normal range , and also specific gravity , pH are normal. Thankyou.
