What Dosage Of Thyronorm Be Taken For Slightly Elevated Thyroid Levels?
i m 39 years old female.delivered a healthy male child in feb 2003.Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in August 2003 ;4 months after normal delivery(TSH=98).controlled in one month on thyronorm 100 mcg.continued the same for one year. then gradually reduced to 75 mcg ,50mcg, 25 mcg and stopped in 2007.normal for 4 years .again Tsh rose to 8 in 2011 and became normal in one month on Thyonorm 25mcg.In 2013-14,Tsh was 2.31.could not take medicine for two months and now it is 8.what potency of thyronorm is reqd?pls suggest.my height is 5 2 ,weight is 51kg(constant for the last 12 years)
The dose of thyroid medicine is determined by monitoring the blood tests while on treatment. Unfortunately a standard dose cannot be calculated using weight and height measurements. Since you were controlled on 25 mcg in for awhile, I would start back on that dose. If your TSH was above normal recently and you were already taking 25 mcg, you might need to go to 50 mcg. Then you need to stay on the thyroid medicine all the time and get your levels checked periodically. Adjustments in the dose may need to be made from time to time after that. Hope this helps.
