Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Levothyroxine is the treatment of choice for
hypothyroidism. Serum TSH should be measured to monitor for adequate replacement. TSH can be taken up to 4 months to normalize.
TSH is measured 6 to 8 weeks after initiation of levothyroxine and then annually once you are on a stable dose of levothyroxine.
You need to take levothyroxine for lifelong continuously without any interruption. Dose is titrated as per serum
TSH level and a serum TSH level of 1 to 3 is considered adequate. As you were taking 75 mcg and now your serum TSH level is 9, you have to increase dose by 25 mcg every 6 to 8 weeks, that is you have to take levothyroxine 100 mcg for 6 to 8 weeks.
After 6 to 8 weeks, you again check your serum TSH level, and dose will be adjusted accordingly.
Once you reach a stable dose, you have to take it continuously and life-long. Consult a good
endocrinologist of your area for further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
