What Dosage Of Trazodone Is Recommended For Anxiety And Depression?

I have been prescribed 100mg of Trazodone for Anxiety and clinical depression. I have suffered massive migraines in first three days. So much so that over twelve hours I needed to take three doses of 30/500 co-codamol and one Imigran nasal spray to get the last migraine under control. It was scary. For one week I took 50mg Trazodone with no side effects before my dose was increased. It was increased because I was still feeling extremely sad and anxious. Would it make any difference or is it worth trying 2 x 50mg Trazodone instead of the 100mg dose? I reverted to 50mg dose last night in order to give myself some recovery time, I still needed migraine medication but it was relieved much more quickly....in six hours!

I can understand your concern. Trazodone is an antidepressant drug and when the drug is started in any individual it is known to cause increased anxiety and restlessness for first few days. So it is advised to start the drug with low doses and the doses should be increased after at least 1-2 weeks. This would prevent any serious restlessness and headache you are having. In my opinion you should take 50 mg doses for at least a week and then dose can be increased to 100 mg after one week. This would make the drug more tolerant. If you suffer headache then you can take your migraine medicines. Please talk to your doctor before making any dose adjustments in your prescription.
