What Effects On Vocalization Would Occur If The Human Respiratory System Were Altered?
Hi, my name is Ken. I m a writer of fiction. I was wondering. In the unlikely event that future evolution somehow altered the structure of the human respiratory system (by perhaps relocating the breathing process from the face to an area near the lungs), what possible effects could that have on vocalization; breathing during eating and/or under water, etc.
well that would be a very odd. this actually happens in people who have a procedure called TRACHEOSTOMY .
Voice is produced by an apparatus in the neck called the larynx which contains two vocal cords. Air is forced through larynx which causes production of sound. This sound is then shaped into words by the movement of oure tongue. If the breathing is shifted to an area near the tongue then there will no voice production. Though the brain is wired to stop breathing while we eat or drink even n patients with tracheostomy but theoretically we would be able to eat and drink while we breath and breathing under water would be no different . Instead of a face mask we would just have a pipe connected to our lungs..
