Unfortunately tuberculosis can be a very severe infection. It is treated by usually 4 medications at a time. If he is sick enough to require a ventilator, the medications are often done intravenously to ensure they are reaching his lungs quickly and reliably. The duration of treatment for TB is many many months depending on h is clinical course.
