What Food Items Can Be Eaten While Suffering From Stomach Inflammation?

I am currently taking Cipro and Metronidazole for a mild inflammation of stomach. I ve not been diagnosed with diverticulitis, but they are treating the inflammation as if it were. I m having a problem figuring out some foods that I can eat. I have read the low residue diet information and I am following it very well, but, for example can I eat cooked beans and lentils or ham?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, when there is a mild inflammation of the stomach, we recommend having light meals. Yes, can have cooked beans or lentils.

Ham is not recommended as that will aggravate stomach inflammation. Instead, can consume chicken/turkey breast, fish, etc.

Should eat frequent meals, but in small portions. Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks, fatty/acidic foods.

Take antacids 2 hours after eating. Take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora.

Sometimes, we recommend to eat yogurt, and to avoid milk. Can try this. Encourage to take ginger/chamomile tea with honey can ease stomach inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
