What Happens When Excess Alcohol Is Taken While Suffering With Addison's Disease?
what happens if you drink alcohol to excess and have addisons disease? I was diagnosed in 1986 and have done well but have severe pain issues from back injury and take oxycontin, drank too much by mistake last night and had about 4 hours of severe confusion, actually thought I was in a coma like before addisons was diagnosed. Finally snapped out of it but this does not seem right even with the oxy and the alcohol. have gotten drunk a couple times since 1986 but nothing like this ever happened. any thoughts?
it's quite a bit unpredictable. Certainly a small amount of alchol (i drink or less per day) is going to have a small effect. BUT the main issue in Addisons Disease is ability to handle stresses and have the blood pressure stay supported. If someone has any medical event the blood pressur could drop significantly. Getting really drunk. Getting drunk and an alcohol related side effect (aspiration, car accident, alcohol withdrawal, seizures) all of these can cause shock in Addisons disease (much less likely in well-TREATED Addison's)
