What Health Risks Does Excess Alcohol Ingestion Present?
Hi, my husband drinks everyday in the evenings. Won't skip one night. I'm worried about his health. He drinks whiskey in big glasses mixed with 7-up. He has done this since teens and he is now 55. His mother and father were alcoholics and I can't get him to stop or slow down. He now sneeks drinks when he doesn't think I know. Last week I saw him drinking whiskey at 9:00 a.m!!! What can I do? What health risks are there?
Your description suggests that he is suffering from alcohol dependence. Alcoholism also run in his family.
The health risks associated with alcoholism are tremendous like liver failure, bleeding in stool and through mouth, gastric ulcers, neuropathies etc.
In my opinion, he needs a residential de-addiction treatment under the supervision of a psychiatrist/addiction medicine specialist.
There are drugs which will smoothen his withdrawal process and also reduce his craving for alcohol.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
