I was taking alpha lipoic acid supplement, but now since I moved, I can not find it, so I wonder if I might just stop taking it. I forgot why I took it. My doctor in my new location knows I have been taking it, and was on it before I moved to her location.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Alpha-lipoic acid is a vitamin-like chemical compound, which is chategorised as an 'antioxidant'. Yeast, liver, kidney, spinach, broccoli, and potatoes are good sources of alpha-lipoic acid. It is commonly used as an antioxidant supplement for the treatment or prevention of certain diseases like diabetes and HIV. It is also used as a supplement for cancer, liver ailments, and various other such conditions. Since intake of this compound is possibly safe, there is no harm in taking it as recommended. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
