Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
please explain labetalol and side effects. my friend is in her late 70 s and on this drug. she recently began having problems with dizziness and decided to cut her dosage in half because she said she feels much better on that amount. I find this worrisome and would greatly appreciate your expert opinion regarding her course of action on this matter. Thank you, JOHN.

1. Labetalol is an adrenergic receptor blocker drugs which works by blocking both alpha and beta receptors and thereby lowering blood pressure.
2. people with conduction defect [heart block], breathing problems [asthma, obstructive airway disease] should avoid it or shift to any other alternative.
3. as dizziness is the common side effect of the drug but if it is persistent and becomes bothersome then instead of stopping or reducing the dose, talk with your doctor for any other safe options/alternative(s)
