My doctor said the results of my cervix biopsy showed a thickened wall or lining. He prescribing Megace and said it could take up to two years to work. I am a retired nurse and remember giving Megace to seniors to increase their appetite. That is the LAST thing I need I am about 300 pounds now. I am thinking of going Shakeology to help loose weight. Now I see one of the side effects that need to be reported to the doctor is weight lose. How concerned should I be?
Megace contains progestin hormones. You are very right because it causes appetite and weight gain so it's used for cachesic pts for weight gain. It's also used for certain gynaecological problems, that's probably for your endometrial thickness.
Weight gain may be enormous and is very common. , and if you have this concern you should discuss with your doctor for alternative options.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
