What Is A Growing Brown Spot On Toenail Suggestive Of?

Hello! I have a light brown spot on my toenail. It sometimes changes its pigmentation (some days I can barely see it, others it is darker). It is moving upwards as my nail grows (it was originally at the bottom and after a month it has separated about 3 mm from the root). It s size appears to be consistent. There is no pain in my toe. What could it be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Brown colour pigment on toenails may be due to blood clots. It will disappear on its own as the nail grows. So no need to worry. Sometimes mild injury over toe may cause brown pigment on the nail.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
